This study aimed to verify the moderated mediating effect of hearing aid use on the relationship between hearing loss and depression among older adults living alone, mediated by social relationship satisfaction. To validate the research model, data from the 2020 National Survey on Older Koreans were used to analyze the data of 3,117 older adults living alone. The main findings are as follows. First, hearing loss among older adults living alone significantly predicted social relationship satisfaction. Second, hearing loss among older adults living alone had direct and indirect effects on depression through mediating social relationship satisfaction. Third, the moderated mediating effect of hearing aid use was significant and acted as a protective factor in the indirect effect between hearing loss, social relationship satisfaction, and depression among older adults living alone. Based on our findings, we identified the importance of using assistive devices not only from a healthcare perspective but also from a social perspective, confirming the importance of linking healthcare and social work in the continuum of care. In addition, by focusing on the functional decline of older adults living alone, this study proposed an integrated approach to the current segmented system for healthy and independent living in the community
